Photo ID on the Internet

Never trust people on photo ID information message boards. The oldest scam in the book is to post messages on ID related message boards claiming to be offering amazing quality photo ID cards. These are likely to be supported by posts from 'customers' backing up the claims. These supporting people are likely the seller trying to lull you into a false sense of security. They will wait for enough orders to come in and then disappear with you having no way of tracing them bar a mail box somewhere in the middle of nowhere.

Check up on the company you are buying from. There isn't a 100% way to do this but these steps should help: Be sure that the company accepts cheques; this ensures they at least have a company bank account to trace them through (banks require a lot of information before an account is opened).

Check the company is operating from a real web site. For example www.nextdayid.com and not www.freewebspace.photoid.com. If a company is legitimate then they will gone to the small cost of hosting a real web site online. Plus this gives another route to trace them.

Check to see if the site is offering illegal type photo ID like the UK and US style driving licence. If it does then it is likely to be a scam.

Recently the US Government has been cracking down on bogus fake ID card companies that are based in the United States, so unless you know someone who has had a good experience with a particular US company it is recommended you try a UK based novelty ID site first.
